Web Accessibility

Is your website Breaking the Law?

Your website should work for everyone

One in four people in the UK has a disability. If your website isn’t accessible, you’re not just excluding potential customers — you may be breaking the law.

The Equality Act 2010 requires businesses to make reasonable adjustments to ensure disabled people can access their services. Since June 2025, the European Accessibility Act extends this to any digital product or service reachable from the EU.

What accessibility actually means:

  • Use screen readers (visual impairments)
  • Navigate with a keyboard only (motor impairments)
  • Need high contrast or resizable text (low vision)
  • Are sensitive to motion or flashing content (cognitive and neurological conditions)
  • Use captions for video content (hearing impairments)

It also means a faster, cleaner, better-structured website that ranks higher in search results. Accessible sites perform better for everyone.

The Purple Pound

Disabled people in the UK have a collective spending power of £274 billion per year.

Businesses with inaccessible websites are actively turning away customers who want to buy from them.

FAQs

Do I legally need an accessibility audit for my website?

Most UK businesses are covered by the Equality Act 2010, which requires “reasonable adjustments” so disabled people can access your services, including your website. An accessibility audit is the most practical way to check whether your site meets that standard and to reduce your risk of complaints or legal action.

What standards do you use for accessibility audits?

We audit against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, which is the level recommended by UK Government and used by regulators when they assess website accessibility.

How long does an accessibility audit take?

For a typical small business site, our Accessibility Health Check usually takes 5–7 working days from access being granted to delivering your report and walkthrough call.

Will an accessible website help my SEO?

Yes. Many accessibility improvements — like better headings, text alternatives for images, and cleaner HTML — also make it easier for search engines to understand and rank your content.

What does your accessibility report include?

You’ll get a plain‑English summary, a prioritised list of issues with screenshots and examples, and clear recommendations on how to fix each issue. We also include a short call to walk you through it.

Can you fix the accessibility issues for us?

Yes. We can implement fixes on your existing site or as part of a redesign project, and then re‑test to confirm that issues have been resolved.

Do you offer ongoing accessibility monitoring?

Yes. As part of our support plans we can run quarterly checks, fix new issues as they appear, and keep your accessibility statement up to date.
